WITHOUT COOLING HELP, HOT WEATHER CAN BE DEADLY FOR NEW YORKERS

The hottest days of summer kill more New Yorkers than any other type of extreme weather. The city reports an average of 13 heat stroke deaths each year, and many more from other heat-related causes. New York State has a program to help people heat and cool their houses, but it’s been geared towards help in the winter. As Rebekah Ward reports, environmentalists say that rising temperatures mean it’s time to reexamine that priority.
