TYLER: For more than ten years, the NSA has collected data on Americans’ phone calls. Yesterday the Second Circuit court of appeals ruled that the U.S.A. Patriot Act doesn’t authorize that.
GREGOIRE: NSA’s current phone data collection program is scheduled to come to an end on June 1st, and Congress will soon vote on whether or not to renew it. I spoke to Margo Schlanger, a former officer for civil rights and civil liberties at the US Department of Homeland Security. She says NSA surveillance has helped prevent terrorist attacks.
