Ukraine: Avi Wolfman-Arent interviews Nicolai Petro

Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych reached an agreement with opposition leaders earlier today aimed at ending the country’s civil unrest. Yanukovych promised to hold early elections and curtail presidential power. It’s unclear if those moves will satisfy street demonstrators, many of whom want Yanukovych removed from office.

Nicolai Petro, a professor of politics at the University of Rhode Island, is currently on sabbatical in Odessa, Ukraine. He’s skeptical that this recent accord will end the country’s spiraling conflict.
