State Assembly Considers Nixing NYC Public School Entrance Exam

At a public hearing today in New York City, members of the state assembly considered expert testimony on whether to do away with a test called the SHSAT. This standardized exam has been the sole requirement for entry into the city’s elite public schools since the 1970s. New Yorkers had strong opinions on both sides of the debate, which they expressed in – and outside of – the hearing room.
