TRAN, VI - NEWSCASTER: From Columbia Radio News in New York, I’m Vi Tran.

At about 11:14 a.m. this morning, JFK Airport announced on its Twitter that Terminal 1 would be closed and would remain closed for the next 24 hours due to power disruption.

Terminal 1 houses many international flights, and because of the closure, the flights scheduled at T1 will have to find different routes to take off and land at different terminals.

Please check with your carriers for your flight status if you have travel plans at JFK later.

Starting today, Ya-Ting Liu, a former transit advocate, will begin her new job as New York City’s director of the public realms.

The highly anticipated new role in City Hall is expected to expand and manage popular programs such as the pandemic-insp

ired outdoor dining and Open Streets.

Mayor Adams also announced this morning that Loeb Boathouse in Central Park might reopen by June 2023.

Its previous owner had financial struggles and closed it last year.

It will reopen if the city’s proposed contract with its new owner, Legends Hospitality, is approved in March.

Loeb Boathouse has been an iconic structure and appeared in many movies, such as When Harry Met Sally. And it is a symbolic victory for New York City against the pandemic, according to Mayor Adams.

ADAMS: And you know, COVID wasn’t terrorism, but it brought terror. And we need some substantial victories that we are seeing, but we also need symbolic victories. And having this boathouse open, we play the role of the symbolism of a city in recovery.

Weather

It will be colder tonight with a chance of rain in the evening, but it is also the debut of Katie Holmes’ off-Broadway at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. The play's name is “The Wanderers,” which will have Katie Holmes plays a movie star.
